Watch a real Maiko, an apprentice Geisha, perform up close. With only about 40 Maikos left in Kyoto, seeing one is a rare and special experience. The performer will be a MAIKO, not a GEISHA—a term for an apprentice geisha training to become a full-fledged geisha.
To begin the show, the Maiko will perform a traditional dance lasting around 10 minutes, which is typical for most Maiko performances. After two dances (each about 5 minutes), there will be time for Q&A, photo-taking, and playing a traditional Japanese game with her.
*IMPORTANT*: In Geisha/Maiko culture, performances are intentionally short to preserve the art’s exclusivity and grace. The walking tour that visits the shrine is only available for the tea house option. The Tea House option accommodates a maximum of 23 guests, while the Gion Theater Option allows up to 30 guests.
