Jeju Aqua Planet Hanwha Aquarium spans 25,600 square meters and consists of four main areas: the aquarium, ocean stage, marine science center, and central performance hall. With a total water capacity of 10,800 tons, it ranks among the world's top 10 aquariums. The facility showcases 48,000 marine creatures including whale sharks, six dolphins, giant sharks, and 10,000 red snappers.
The aquarium has three floors in total, with one basement level and two above-ground levels. Visitors enter through the second-floor entrance. The second floor recreates the landscapes of "Jeju Island and the Five Oceans"—the Arctic, Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Southern Oceans—and displays representative marine life from each ocean.
The first floor's theme is "A Magical Encounter Between the Ocean and the Jungle," where visitors can observe seals, penguins, and other creatures in a three-dimensional setting. Inside, lush trees and dense foliage create a refreshing and delightful scene. Additionally, the "Ocean Adventure" zone offers visitors the chance to experience a tropical rainforest expedition. The first floor also features a touch pool where children can immerse their hands after the "Ocean Adventure" to interact up close with marine life such as magpies, sharks, conches, and starfish.
The basement level features the main pool, known as the "3D (IMAX) Ocean" of Jeju Island's Aqua Planet. This pool, dubbed the "Sea of Jeju Island," measures 23 meters in length and 8.5 meters in height, taking a full two weeks to fill completely. The breathtaking views create an immersive experience akin to being inside a 3D movie. To withstand the immense water pressure, the pool is constructed with 60cm-thick acrylic panels, reportedly costing approximately KRW 10 billion to build.
