Your Experience

The Archaeological Museum, Vijayapura is housed in the Naqqar Khana (Trumpet House) within the Gol Gumbaz monument complex in Vijayapura (formerly Bijapur), the former capital of the Adil Shahi dynasty (1489-1686 CE). Originally established in 1892 as a small collection, it grew into a District Museum in 1912 before the Archaeological Survey of India took over its administration in 1962, making it one of the earliest ASI site museums in India.

The museum houses 1,619 antiquities dating from the 6th to the 18th century CE, including stone inscriptions, sculptures, manuscripts, coins, weapons, carpets, and Bidri ware associated with the Adil Shahi sultans. The building itself reflects the Adil Shahi architectural style, with elevated platforms and tall arches raised over massive piers.
