Archaeological Site Museum, Amaravati

The Archaeological Site Museum at Amaravati stands beside the remains of the great Mahachaitya stupa on the banks of the Krishna River, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh. It was established to house sculptural material recovered from the stupa, representing the renowned Amaravati school of art that developed over more than a millennium beginning in the 3rd century BC.

The museum's three galleries display early symbolic representations of the Buddha (such as the svastika and flaming pillar), life-size standing Buddha images with idealized features, 2nd century BC sculptures including Yakshi figures and Asokan edicts, Satavahana-period artifacts such as an ornately carved bull (Nandisvara), and panels depicting Jataka tales and Buddhist devotional imagery.
