The Archaeological Site Museum, Badami was established in 1979 as a sculpture shed to collect and preserve materials, sculptures, inscriptions, and architectural members found in and around Badami, and was converted into a full-fledged museum in 1982. It is located at the foothills of the northern hill fort, near an inscription of the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I, who is recorded to have captured Badami (Vatapi) from the Chalukyas.
The museum contains 181 antiquities dating from the 6th to the 16th century, displayed across four indoor galleries plus an open-air section. Exhibits include sculptures of Shiva in various forms, Ganesha, forms of Vishnu, panels narrating Bhagavata scenes, and Lajjagauri figures, alongside prehistoric stone implements and a scaled model of the prehistoric cave at Sidlaphadi.
