The Archaeological Site Museum at Chanderi is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India and houses a collection of stone sculptures, architectural fragments, coins and other antiquities recovered from Chanderi and its neighbourhood. The exhibits are arranged across galleries covering the history of Chanderi and its Vaishnava, Shaiva-Shakta and Jaina sculptural traditions, reflecting the town's long history as a fortified trading and craft centre in the Malwa region.
Chanderi itself is known for its fort, numerous mosques, tombs and step-wells built under the Malwa Sultanate and later rulers, and the site museum functions as a repository for material excavated from these monuments. It gives visitors a compact introduction to the layered history of the town before they explore the fort and surrounding structures.
