The Archaeological Museum at Vaishali was established in 1971 by the Archaeological Survey of India to preserve and display antiquities recovered from exploration and excavation carried out in and around Vaishali, the capital of the ancient Licchavi confederacy and traditionally regarded as the seat of one of the world's earliest republics.
Spread across four galleries, the museum's collection draws on decades of excavation at Vaishali-area sites, including material related to the Licchavi period and later occupation layers, complementing the region's better-known monuments such as the Ashokan pillar at nearby Kolhua and the Relic Stupa of Vaishali.
