Bata Shoe Museum invites visitors on a fascinating journey through the history and cultural significance of footwear. Designed by renowned architect Raymond Moriyama, the museum is home to over 13,000 shoes, spanning 4,500 years of history, with exhibitions that highlight the role of shoes in shaping cultures around the world.
The collection includes a diverse range of footwear, from French chestnut-crushing boots to delicately embroidered Chinese silk shoes, moose-skin moccasins, and even shoes made from human hair. Notable items include a velvet-covered platform chopine from Renaissance Italy, ancient Greek and Egyptian sandals, and modern haute couture designs.
The permanent exhibition, "All About Shoes: Footwear Through the Ages," delves into how footwear has evolved and impacted daily life and imagination over the centuries. Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast or a history buff, the Bata Shoe Museum offers an engaging experience that reveals the rich stories behind the shoes we wear.
The museum is fully accessible to visitors using wheelchairs. Thursday evenings from 17:00 to 20:00 is PayWhatYouCan, with a suggested donation of CA$5. Admission is free for children 4 years old and below.
