Bekal Fort is a coastal fort situated on the Arabian Sea shore at Pallikkara village in the Kasaragod district of Kerala, about 16 km south-east of Kasaragod town. Spread over roughly forty acres, it is considered one of the best-preserved forts in the state, with massive laterite walls rising about 12 metres high.
The fort is believed to have been built by Sivappa Nayaka. In 1763 it fell into the hands of Hyder Ali, and later served as an important military station for Tipu Sultan during his Malabar campaign. After Tipu Sultan's death in 1799 fighting the British, Mysorean control ended and the fort passed to the English East India Company.
Key architectural features include a stepped tank, a tunnel opening towards the south, a magazine for ammunition storage, and a wide ramp leading to an observation tower that offers sweeping views of the surrounding coastline. The fort is maintained today by the Archaeological Survey of India as a centrally protected monument.
