The Buddhist Caves of Uparkot form part of the Junagadh Buddhist Cave Groups, situated in the eastern part of Junagadh, Gujarat, within the Uparkot Fort complex beyond its deep moat, close to the Adi Kadi Vav stepwell. The caves were carved in the 2nd-3rd century AD and show a combination of Satavahana and Graeco-Scythian architectural influence.
The cave group is arranged in three tiers, with columns and galleries rendered in semi-relief, though only two storeys have regular floors. On the first floor is a Kunda, a deep square water tank about 11 feet across, surrounded on three sides by a covered verandah, adjoining a large pillared chamber with six pillars supporting the roof.
The complex includes water cisterns, an assembly hall for congregational monastic activities, and individual cells for meditation, and is maintained today by the Archaeological Survey of India as a protected monument within the wider Uparkot Fort heritage precinct.
