The natural cavern with stone beds at Eladipattam, on the summit of a low hill at Sittanavasal in Pudukkottai district, is a spacious, low-roofed cave containing about seventeen rectangular stone beds with carved stone pillows, cut out for Jaina ascetics to use while performing austerities such as kayotsarga and sallekhana. The site preserves rare Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions, including the largest bed's inscription in Brahmi script dating to the first century BCE, along with later inscriptions naming Jain monks such as Tolakunrattu Kadavulan, Tirunillan, Tiruppuranan and Tittaicharanan, as well as further inscriptions from the 9th and 10th centuries. The cavern formed part of a Jain pilgrimage and ascetic centre that remained active until around the 9th century CE. The site, along with the adjoining rock-cut Jain temple and nearby megalithic burials, is protected and maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.
