This exhibition reproduces the life of Ryoma Sakamoto, a historical figure active in the mid-19th century, through more than 120 wax statues. Taiwanese sculptor Lin Jian-Cheng's wax statues are of amazingly exquisite craftsmanship. The annexed archive hall exhibits Ryoma's famous sword Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki and more Ryoma-related items.
It exhibits the wax statues of 49 famous personalities from all around the world. Leading political figures of the world literally sit side by side, including the Kochi native Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida, who led Japan after the end of World War II, and the American General MacArthur. The realistic wax figures look as though they're going to speak any minute now.
It exhibits a rich lineup of more than 20 unique, fascinating classic cars from a century ago, collected from Japan and overseas. You can see how much the automobile industry has progressed when you see these creative cars that boasted the highest engineering of that time.
Here, you will find works by the genius painter Kinzo Hirose (a.k.a. Ekin, 1812-1876) and his disciples. See his Kabuki-themed paintings in his characteristically eerie, impactful style, illuminated by lights made to resemble candles. He tells one complete story inside each painting by making use of bold perspective and representing continuous actions by the same characters in the same space as seen in biblical illustrations.
Model cars evolved from toy minicars, only ten centimeters long, to artworks enjoyed by adults in the 90s. We have more than 3,700 of them on display. Famous cars from all over the world are lined up in this museum, the first of its kind in the world, in 1/43 scale.
This is the only gallery in Japan dedicated to Frank Nee-Owoo, an artist from the Republic of Ghana. His works are typically made of four metals: bronze, aluminum, copper, and brass.
