Daria Daulat Bagh, which translates to the "Garden of the Sea of Wealth," is the magnificent summer palace of Tipu Sultan, located in the historic town of Srirangapatna, Karnataka. Built in 1784 to commemorate Tipu Sultan's victory over the British, the palace is a spectacular example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, constructed primarily out of teakwood. Set amidst beautifully landscaped, lush green gardens, the rectangular structure rests on a raised stone platform and features ornate wooden pillars, scalloped arches, and wooden canopies.
The most breathtaking feature of Daria Daulat Bagh is its walls, pillars, and ceilings, which are entirely covered in vibrant, intricate frescoes. These murals famously depict the military campaigns of Tipu Sultan and his father, Hyder Ali, most notably their victory at the Battle of Pollilur. Today, the ground floor serves as an ASI museum, housing a rich collection of Tipu Sultan’s personal memorabilia, including weaponry, historic coins, Persian manuscripts, and contemporary European paintings. It is a must-visit for those interested in 18th-century Indian history and the Anglo-Mysore wars
