Getting started
If you've opted for hotel pickup, your driver will collect you from your Doha accommodation; otherwise, meet at the National Museum metro station. Arrive 10 minutes before departure to ensure a smooth start as convoys leave on time and latecomers may not be accommodated. The drive southward to Mesaieed takes approximately 45 minutes via Highway 56, during which your guide will outline the day's activities.
Into the dunes
The convoy enters a dune corridor near Sealine Beach in your Land Cruiser. Professional drivers adjust tire pressure to 15 PSI for optimal sand traction. The thrilling dune bashing segment lasts about 30 minutes, with your driver skillfully navigating steep inclines and sharp descents at angles up to 45 degrees. You can communicate any preference for a milder experience to the driver.
Sandboarding stop
At a prominent dune, you'll have access to sandboards provided by guides who will demonstrate proper technique: feet shoulder-width apart, knees bent, and leaning back slightly. Most runs last between 5-8 seconds down slopes of about 20 meters. You’ll need to climb up the dunes for each ride as there is no lift system.
Khor Al Adaid (Inland Sea)
After a 20-minute drive further into the desert, you'll reach Khor Al Adaid or Inland Sea, where the Arabian Gulf's tidal bay extends inland by about 10 kilometers. The brackish waters are encircled by towering dunes reaching up to 40 meters in height. This unique location is one of only three places on Earth where sea directly meets desert. You'll have a photo stop lasting around 15 minutes, with opportunities to wade into shallow water or climb nearby dunes for panoramic views.
Camel ride and refreshments
The convoy returns to the camp area for camel rides that last about 10 minutes each. Handlers lead camels on controlled circuits, assisting guests in mounting by having them kneel down. This activity is not recommended for pregnant individuals or those with serious back issues. After your adventure, enjoy local tea at the desert camp before departing.
Wrapping up
The return journey to Doha takes about 50 minutes. If you chose a meeting point pickup, you'll be dropped off at the National Museum metro station; hotel pickup guests will head back to their accommodations. The total duration of this tour is approximately 4 hours.
