From Bergen: Day Trip to Viking Village & UNESCO Fjord Cruise from Flam

Getting started

Begin your day with a scenic bus ride from Bergen through the varied landscapes of Western Norway, passing mountains, valleys, fjords, and small villages.

What to expect

Viking Village

We visit the Viking Village in Gudvangen, where you step into the Viking Age and meet modern-day Vikings.

Features:

• Along the way, your guide shares stories about the region and Norwegian life. After about an hour, we make a short comfort stop (often at Dale Outlet, beside the historic textile factory) before continuing to the beautiful Tvindefossen waterfall, known for its wide cascade and picturesque setting. (From June 1 to August 31, Tvindefossen is visited on the return journey.)

• Explore traditional buildings, crafts, and weapons while learning about Norway’s rich Viking heritage in an authentic fjord setting.

fjord cruise & Flåm

The journey continues to Flåm, an idyllic fjord village surrounded by steep mountains.

Features:

• From here, enjoy one of the day’s highlights, a fjord cruise on the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. As the boat glides through narrow passages framed by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls, you experience one of the most dramatic fjord landscapes in the world.

• After arriving back in Gudvangen, the afternoon program varies by season. From May 1 to August 31, we visit the historic Stalheim Hotel, beautifully located above the Nærøydalen Valley, where a coffee break is arranged with panoramic views. Outside the summer season, we instead enjoy coffee at a fjordside café in Gudvangen before continuing toward Voss.

In the evening, we return to Bergen after a full day of fjords, waterfalls, Viking history, and spectacular scenery — a journey that truly showcases the best of Western Norway!
