Start a Speleological Odyssey by boarding a mining train after driving 3km up a mountain, entering through La Isidra tunnel into an awe-inspiring cave. Marvel at unique geological formations such as eccentric helictites, cascading translucent calcite draperies, the Sentinels, the Opera, and the gallery of Ghosts with their uncanny shapes formed by stalagmites and stalactites. The tour includes light and sound effects along with a voice-over in La Gorda room. Currently accessible are 6 out of the cave’s 17 miles.

The discovery and exploitation of this cave system began in the early 20th century during the construction of La Florida's mines, giving rise to its name ‘El Soplao’—a term describing the sensation of blowing air when tunneling with low oxygen levels. Your selected walking tour concludes at the inner station of the cave where you will board El Soplao mining train again to exit through the outer station.

By Car

  • The Cave can be reached trough the A-8 motorway that goes from Santander to Oviedo, exit 269 (Los Tánagos-Pesués-Puente Nansa).

  • Before reaching the town of Pesués, take the detour to Puente Nansa until arriving at Rábago. From there, follow the road to El Soplao.
