The Dashavatara Temple at Deogarh, in Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh, is an early 6th-century Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu, standing in the Betwa river valley about 125 km from Jhansi. Built during the Gupta period, it is considered the earliest known Panchayatan-style temple in north India and the first north Indian temple known to carry a spire, or shikhara.
The temple stands on a terraced basement decorated with sculptured panels and features a carved doorway flanked by the river goddesses Ganga and Yamuna. Three large relief panels on its exterior depict scenes from Vaishnava mythology, including the Sheshashayana (Vishnu reclining on the serpent Ananta), Nara-Narayana, and Gajendra Moksha episodes. The site is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
