Hoshang Shah's Tomb in Mandu is the mausoleum of Hoshang Shah, the second ruler of the Malwa Sultanate, who reigned from 1405 to 1435. Completed around 1440 under his successor Mahmud Khilji, it is regarded as the first marble structure built in India. The square tomb rises about 9.6 metres and is entered through a finely proportioned doorway on its southern side, facing an entrance porch to the north.
Its architecture blends Afghan and Indian building traditions, with lattice screens, corner towers and a prominent dome; the dome's rim carries miniature arches set against a blue enamel background. Hoshang Shah's cenotaph inside is carved as a receding-banded casket with a mihrab moulding at its head. The tomb is widely noted for having influenced the design of the Taj Mahal, whose architects are said to have studied it during construction.
