Bring the family for a chance to play with the dolphins and be amazed by the abundance of marine life. Experience the wonders of the deep sea at Io World Kagoshima City Aquarium.
Paying visitors include adults (high school students and older), children (elementary and junior high school students), and infants (4 years and older). For details, kindly check the official website. The aquarium is closed for four consecutive days starting from the first Monday of December but remains open as usual during the year-end and New Year holidays.
The aquarium is strategically located facing the Sakurajima volcano, the symbol of Kagoshima. It houses 30,000 sea creatures from over 500 species primarily from the Kyushu region. Visitors can see the world's largest fish, the whale shark, swimming in the Kuroshio Great Water Tank with tuna.
Other highlights include exhibits for tropical fish and live corals, the "Deep Sea of Kagoshima" experience, the peacefully quiet "Jellyfish Corridor," and the Umiushi (sea slug) Research Center. The popular "Touch Pool" allows interaction with sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and other creatures.
There are daily events where audiences can participate in whale shark feeding or electric eel feeding, along with guided tours by staff. Stay tuned for when the dolphins swim out from their pool into the open ocean. Infants below four years old can enter free of charge.
