The Tomb of I'timad-ud-Daulah is a Mughal mausoleum on the eastern bank of the Yamuna in Agra, commissioned by Empress Nur Jahan for her father, Mirza Ghiyas Beg, who held the title I'timad-ud-Daulah (Pillar of the State) under Emperor Jahangir. Built between 1622 and 1628, it houses the cenotaphs of both of Nur Jahan's parents.
The tomb marks a turning point in Mughal architecture, moving away from the red sandstone-with-marble-trim style seen at Akbar's Tomb toward the white marble and pietra dura inlay work that would later define the Taj Mahal. Its walls are inlaid with semi-precious stones such as cornelian, jasper, lapis lazuli, onyx, and topaz, arranged into motifs of cypress trees, wine vessels, and fruit, and its interior is lit through finely carved marble jali screens.
Often nicknamed the "Baby Taj" or "Jewel Box," the monument is set within a charbagh garden and is widely regarded by historians as a direct design influence on the Taj Mahal built two decades later.
