The Temple and Sculpture Gallery at Lakkundi is centred on the Brahma Jinalaya (Jain Basadi), a Jain temple built in the latter half of the 11th century by Attimabbe, a devout Jain patron and influential figure at the Chalukyan court. Constructed from fine-grained chloritic schist, it is one of the earliest examples in the region to use this stone and features a five-storeyed vimana that is square in plan from base to spire, reflecting the mature phase of Kalyani Chalukya temple architecture.
Adjacent to the temple, the ASI maintains a sculpture gallery displaying artifacts recovered from Lakkundi and its surroundings, including Chalukya-era coins, finely carved sculptural fragments depicting deities and mythological scenes, and inscription slabs recording royal land grants. Lakkundi, in Gadag district, was an important town under the Chalukyas of Kalyani and is known for its concentration of finely carved temples and stepped wells.
