At the Key West Shipwreck Treasure Museum, visitors can explore the rich history of shipwrecks and salvage operations that were central to Key West's economy in the 1800s. The museum features two floors filled with artifacts from shipwrecks, including treasures from Spanish fleets dating back to the 1600s and 1700s, as well as items from the 1856 wreck of the Isaac.
You have the unique opportunity to lift a silver bar salvaged from the Spanish treasure galleon, Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas. The museum itself is designed to resemble a 19th-century wrecker tycoon warehouse and includes a 65-foot lookout tower.
A variety of audiovisual displays, including a below-sea-level theatre, offer insights into Key West's past, allowing visitors to experience life as it was for those who risked their lives retrieving shipwreck treasures. The tour is self-guided and does not require reservations.
