The Khapra Kodia and Baba Pyare caves are two of the Junagadh Buddhist Cave Groups, rock-cut monastic dwellings in Junagadh district, Gujarat, maintained by the ASI Vadodara circle. The Khapra Kodia caves, also known as Khangar Mahal, are dated to the 3rd-4th century BC during the reign of Emperor Ashoka and are considered the plainest and among the earliest monastic settlements in the area, featuring an L-shaped residential plan and distinctively engineered water tanks.
The Baba Pyare caves, named for their proximity to the Modhi-Math shrine popularly known as Baba Pyara, were constructed during the Satavahana period in the 1st-2nd century AD, a little outside the Uparkot fort complex. The group comprises 13 caves across three levels spanning about 45 metres, carved with Buddhist architectural influence. The site includes an apsidal chaitya hall with lion brackets and chaitya-window ornamentation, and doorways decorated with Buddhist symbols such as the swastika, triratna, ankusa, and fish motifs.
