What you can expect

Discover the architectural project "Hansaviertel" during a guided tour and learn more about the competition of ideological positions.

The inner-city war-damaged Hansaviertel district was designated as a fairground in the early 1950s and social housing was envisaged. The urban housing of the future was left to a selection of ideas by German architects as well as the designs of the most renowned architects of the Western world via a competition procedure. Learn more about the competition process, as well as the different ideas of Le Corbusier, Oskar Niemeyer, Alvar Aalto and Walter Gropius.

Walk through the Hansaviertel district and learn about West Berlin's municipal ambition and social living conditions. Discover how the Hansaviertel consisted of balconies, walkable roofs, ambient greenery, air and light, modern building technology and spatial inventions.
