This bite-sized standalone tour of the Arch-Basilica of St. John Lateran and the Holy Steps is an ideal option for those on a tight schedule or with reduced mobility. Also known as the Mother Church of the World and the Cathedral of Rome, St. John Lateran is the highest ranking church in the Catholic world.

A beacon for Christian pilgrims to Rome, this breathtaking basilica is the Seat of the Pope in Rome and is the site of one of the four Holy Doors that are set to open throughout the Jubilee year of 2024. The basilica turned precisely 1700 years old in 2023 and on our tour you’ll learn about its rich history, its trials and its glories, as well as read into the symbolism of the stunning mosaics and other artwork that adorn its interior. This St. John Lateran tour also takes in the Church of the Holy Steps just across the road. Here, pilgrims are invited to climb the steps on their knees in order to obtain Partial Indulgence upon certain conditions. It must be noted however that there will not be time to partake in this tradition during the tour.
