Enjoy a traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e making experience! This activity offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses, allowing you to create your own Ukiyo-e under the guidance of skilled artisans.
The activity uses exclusive woodblocks provided by the Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum to print 3-4 colors onto high-quality washi paper. Even if it is your first time, you can create unique and beautiful effects through techniques like pigment application, rubbing with a baren, and applying pressure, allowing you to personally experience the importance of 'printing' in the Ukiyo-e production process. The finished product can be placed in an original folder to take home.
Plan Description
- Beginner Experience Course (3-color printing)
Experience Content: An introductory Ukiyo-e woodblock printing course where you will create a 3-color print of 'Kagekiyo and Benkei,' one of the classic Kabuki scenes. (Includes admission fee)
- Duration: Approx. 15-30 minutes
- Intermediate Experience Course (4-color printing)
Experience Content: An intermediate Ukiyo-e woodblock printing course where you will create a 4-color print featuring the stone pavement of Hozenji Temple and a woman in a kimono, depicted using line-drawing techniques. (Includes admission fee)
- Advanced Experience Course (4-color printing + multi-layer printing)
Experience Content: An advanced Ukiyo-e woodblock printing course where you will create a challenging 4-color print that captures the depth of the Hozenji Temple stone pavement and the three-dimensional feel of a Kabuki beckoning cat. (Includes admission fee)
