Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art is holding a special exhibition focusing on Buddhist statues passed down through temples and shrines within the prefecture.
A highlight is the National Treasure 'Standing Statue of Cundi Bodhisattva' from the Daihoon-ji Temple in Kyoto. Furthermore, you can view historically significant Buddhist statues up close, including Important Cultural Properties associated with Kumamoto, as well as prefectural and city-designated cultural assets.
As we mark the 10th anniversary of the Kumamoto Earthquake, this is a valuable opportunity to encounter cultural assets that have been preserved through disasters, along with the hopes and prayers of the people entrusted to them.
