Getting started

Check in at Honokohau Harbor near the pavilion and public restrooms, located about 4.5 miles south of Kona Airport and 3.5 miles north of Kailua Kona. After turning into the harbor, take the first right, follow the road as it veers left to the large parking lot, then drive left toward the boat ramp to meet your crew member by the pavilion before boarding.

Head out from Honokohau Harbor into the open ocean on a seasonal and weather-dependent night outing to the manta ray site. Conditions can vary, so the exact schedule and viewing spot may change based on water conditions, traffic, and where manta rays are active.

Features

  • In-water snorkeling to watch manta rays is available on the In-Water Snorkeling option, letting you enter the ocean after dark and observe manta rays from the surface with your face in the water. The Boat Ride-Along option (no snorkeling) allows you to stay on the boat and watch others snorkel without getting into the water.

  • A snorkel and mask are provided so you do not need to bring your own core gear. An optional safety jacket is available if you want extra flotation support while you are in the water or on the boat.

  • A wetsuit top is included to help keep you more comfortable during the night snorkeling portion in the open ocean. This layer is provided on both the in-water snorkeling and boat ride-along options.
