The Fukuda Museum of Art opened in 2019 near the bustling Togetsukyo Bridge, providing an escape from the surrounding hustle and bustle. It houses approximately 2,000 works by renowned Kyoto-based painters like Ito Jakuchu and Uemura Shoen. The museum aims to create exhibits that resonate even with those unfamiliar with art.
Clear cases allow visitors to experience the jewel-like colors of Japanese paintings, while catchy explanations enhance understanding. Exhibition rooms are designed for photography, making it enjoyable for all visitors.
[Entry limited from July 18th to September 6th] The museum will hold a special exhibition themed on “prayer” in the summer of 2026. This exhibition is divided into three parts: Buddhist paintings, auspicious paintings that adorn daily life, and landscape paintings by Higashiyama Kaii (1908-1999), a giant of the Japanese art world.
Kaii's brushwork, described as “a prayer of the heart,” offers tranquility that purifies the viewer’s heart, providing a moment to converse with their inner voice amidst everyday life.
