The visitor experience at the Leopold Museum includes exploring one of the most significant collections of modern Austrian art globally. The museum showcases masterpieces from the Wiener Secession, Art Nouveau, and Expressionism.
The collection features over 5,000 exhibits gathered by Rudolf Leopold (1925 - 2010), an eye specialist and art enthusiast, alongside his wife Elisabeth over five decades. The museum's most notable highlight is the world's largest and most prominent collection of works by expressionist Egon Schiele.
In 1994, with support from the Republic of Austria and the Austrian National Bank, the collection was consolidated into a non-profit foundation. The Leopold Museum opened its doors in 2001, thanks to these efforts.
Visitors can also explore the Egon Schiele-Documentation Centre within the museum, dedicated to research on Schiele’s work and housing numerous autographs. The centre complements the extensive collection of oil paintings and graphic works by Schiele.
The Leopold Museum is accessible for wheelchair users. Visitors can meet at Line U2 stop "MuseumsQuartier" or Line U3 stop "Volkstheater" (Museum Quarter, Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna, Austria).
