The Lord Cornwallis Tomb in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, commemorates General Charles Cornwallis, who died at Ghazipur on 5 October 1805 during his second term as Governor-General of India. The memorial was erected in his honour by the British inhabitants of Calcutta. The tomb consists of a lofty dome supported by twelve columns, raised on a circular platform about 3.66 metres high and 18.30 metres in diameter. The central burial chamber is built of white marble and bears a bust of Cornwallis flanked by figures of a Hindu and a Muslim man shown in mourning. The monument is today protected and administered by the Archaeological Survey of India.
