The Lukang Folk Culture Museum offers a unique blend of architectural styles, combining Baroque and Minnan elements with exquisite red brick arcades and facade carvings. Visitors can explore the historical and cultural heritage of the Koo family, one of Taiwan's five major families, through its rich collection.
The museum is a classic Western-style building that was completed in 1919 after six years of construction. It stands as the first Western-style structure in the area and is locally known as "Yamato House." The fusion of various Western classical architectural styles makes it a significant landmark in Taiwanese architecture.
Strolling through the museum feels like traveling back a century, offering a glimpse into the atmosphere of an ancient house filled with historical heritage. Established by the Koo family in 1973, the Lukang Folk Culture Museum Foundation transformed their ancestral home into a cultural museum that preserves memories of Taiwanese life.
The museum houses over 6,000 precious artifacts, covering aspects of food, clothing, housing, transportation, religious customs, and festival culture from the Qing Dynasty to the early Republic of China. Each piece tells a story of Taiwan's social landscape and aesthetics over the past century.
The event may be affected by weather, and visitors will be notified in advance of any changes. Wheelchairs are allowed, but the showroom is not an accessible space. Eating and drinking are prohibited in the exhibition hall.
