Aowanda National Forest Recreation Area offers a breathtaking experience with its diverse natural beauty and rich ecosystem. Known as one of the most famous autumn foliage viewing spots in Taiwan, Aowanda captivates visitors year-round.
Cherry blossoms bloom beautifully in spring, while summer brings stunning waterfalls. Autumn is marked by vibrant maple leaves, and winter showcases serene landscapes. The area's elevation ranges from 1,100 to 1,600 meters above sea level, featuring native beech, green oak, and two-leaf pine forests.
The rich natural ecosystem supports a variety of wildlife, including white-nosed hearth beetles, squirrels, goats, Formosan macaques, Japanese tree frogs, long-armed beetles, and stag beetles. Visitors can also spot 120 bird species such as the stork and Taiwan blue magpie.
In May, black-winged fireflies appear alongside Taiwan long-armed beetles and numerous butterflies. The autumn season is particularly busy with large areas of native maple forests decorating the viewing trail. Cherry blossoms in spring also offer a stunning display.
The spectacular Aowanda Suspension Bridge, 180 meters long and 90 meters high, connects beautiful pine forest areas. Visitors can enjoy an overlook of the confluence of the Wanda North and South Rivers from this vantage point.
