Ukiyoe Woodblock Printmaking Experience

Enjoy a traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e painting experience with three available courses: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Under the guidance of craftsmen, you can create your own Ukiyo-e. Even if it is your first time, you can create unique and beautiful effects by applying paint, rubbing the paintbrush, and applying pressure, experiencing the importance of "printing" in the Ukiyo-e painting process.

Once you have finished your work, you can put it in your original folder and take it home. The minimum number of participants is 2 people, and the experience takes about 15 to 30 minutes.

Courses Offered

• Beginner's Trial Course (3-color Printing): Experience making a three-color print of "Kagekiyo and Benkei," one of the classic scenes of Kabuki.
• Intermediate Experience Course (4-color printing): Experience 4-color woodblock prints that depict the stone pavement of Hozenji Temple and women in kimonos using only lines.
• Advanced Experience Course (4-color printing + multiple layer printing): Experience making a difficult 4-color print that can create the layered feel of the stone pavement of Hozenji Temple and the three-dimensional feel of the Kabuki Maneki Cat.

Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum

The Ukiyo-e Museum is located in the Dotonbori area of Osaka, which once flourished as a theater town. The museum displays portraits of kabuki actors active in the area, as well as ukiyo-e paintings made using gold, silver, and copper powder. You can slowly appreciate the differences between Kamikawa Ukiyo-e and Edo Ukiyo-e, gaining a deeper understanding of the exquisite works of Ukiyo-e.
