Palazzo Grimani served as a residence for one of Venice's most influential patrician families until the mid-19th century. The palatial estate was acquired at the end of the 15th century by Antonio Grimani, an eminent figure in both political and military spheres within the Republic of Venice, who ascended to Doge in 1521.
Antonio bequeathed this property to his four sons, establishing it as a home for their branch of the family known as "di Santa Maria Formosa."
