Welcome to Spain's premier art museum. Standing alongside the likes of the Louvre, the Vatican Museums, and the Met, the Prado Museum in central Madrid is home to some of the most iconic artworks in human history.

Art Collection

Marcel at art from Spanish masters like Velázquez and Goya, and international stars like Titian, Rembrandt, El Greco, Rubens, and Bosch. There are more than 7,000 paintings in the Prado's collection (although only around 1,500 are on display at any given time). Each offers a penetrating look at the celebrated history of European art and history.

Notable Artists

The collection includes a large number of paintings by Spanish Golden Age golden boy, Velázquez. It also has an overview of the somber, sometimes darkly psychological, works of Goya who is widely considered to be the most important Spanish artist of his era. The Prado has works by Flemish masters too, with Rubens, Bruegel, and Van Dyck all well represented here.

Unique Pieces

The collection also includes Hieronymus Bosch's remarkable Garden of Earthly Delights, easily the world's best-known triptych.

Visiting Tips

  • Enter via the Jerónimos entrance, located on the left side of the box office. This entrance is also indicated by a sign outside the museum.
  • Show your Prado Museum ticket on your smartphone to the staff at the entrance and keep it ready during your visit.
  • We recommend visiting the temporary exhibitions before the general collection to make sure you get a spot, as they may be subject to capacity constrictions.
