Roopmati's Pavilion stands on a high ridge south of Baz Bahadur's Palace in Mandu, built and modified in phases across the 15th to 17th centuries. It began as a military observation post, its original structure a long, massive hall with rooms at either end, walls sloped sharply toward the base, and arches heavy in proportion to their spans.
The pavilion is popularly associated with the story of Baz Bahadur, the last independent ruler of Malwa, and Roopmati, a singer and poetess, and is said to have later served as her retreat. From this vantage point the pavilion offers views of both Baz Bahadur's Palace below and the Narmada river in the distance, making it one of the most visited points in Mandu.
