Shenqiao Crossing Bridge

This bridge, also referred to as the "Royal Bridge" or "Mountain Suga Snake Bridge," was registered as a national important cultural property in December 1999. It belongs to Nikko Futarasan Shrine and is recognized as World Heritage.

Bridge Details
  • The bridge measures 28 meters in length, 7.4 meters in width, and stands 10.6 meters above the water.
  • It features 10 main columns on its railings, each adorned with imitation orbs.
  • The inside of the bridge plate is painted with black lacquer, while the rest is coated with vermilion lacquer, offering a rich Japanese aesthetic.

Constructed at the end of the Nara period according to mysterious traditions, it was revered as a sacred bridge. Since its reconstruction in 1636, it has been used exclusively for Shinto rituals and other significant gatherings. General civilians can only use the fake bridge (Sunko Bridge) located downstream.

The sacred bridge opened to the public in 1973 to commemorate the 1,200th anniversary of Nanti Mountain's founding and underwent extensive renovations in 1997.

Shinen

"Shinen" is situated on the left side of Futarasan Shrine and serves as a worship area. It houses various important cultural properties, including Tang Dynasty bronze spring lanterns known for their mysterious changes when lit, along with numerous knife marks. Other notable features include Hie Shrine, shrines, Daikokuden, bamboo trees near Erhuang Spirit Spring that are believed to bless marriages, and spiritual stones associated with childbirth.

This area is a popular energy attraction. The distance between Shinbashi Bridge and Shinen Garden is approximately 1.2 kilometers.
