The Taichung Baxianshan National Forest Recreation Area offers visitors lush forests with a refreshing and pleasant climate, complemented by streams originating from deep mountain forests. The area is known for its crystal-clear water dotted with rocks of all sizes.
Known as a "paradise for mountain birds," the Baxianshan National Forest Park is home to a variety of bird species, including the Formosan Blue Magpie, Grey-throated Minivet, Little Woodpecker, Yellow Tit, and Red-bellied Tit. Common sights include the Blue-backed Tit and the Red-bellied Tit.
Baxianshan is one of the Seven Heroes of Guguan and a popular mid-range mountain in central Taiwan that attracts many hikers. The area has historical significance, with "Hachishinsan" being its Japanese name, derived from its height of eight thousand Japanese feet, akin to the homonym "Eight Immortals." From 1915 to 1963, Hachishinsan enjoyed a period of forestry development.
The former forest railway has been dismantled after logging ceased, leaving only old photographs within the park for visitors to remember it by. Besides historical sites, this area is also a bird paradise, featuring a rich bird ecosystem.
