The Beitou Art Museum is located on the elegant Beitou Mountainside. In an 800-square-foot garden surrounded by greenery, it stands as the only pure cypress two-story Japanese-style main building left in Taiwan. The museum exudes elegance with a mysterious and tranquil atmosphere, making it one of the exquisite buildings in Taiwan at present.
This building was constructed in 1921, serving as the most exclusive hot spring hotel during the Japanese colonial period under the name "Jiashan Hotel." Despite changes in ownership and name over time, its charming scenery remains intact. In 1983, Mr. Zhang Chunming, the founder of the Beitou Art Museum, leased it to establish the "Taiwan Folk Art and Cultural Relics House," which opened officially in 1984. It houses nearly 5,000 pieces of early Taiwanese folklore and aboriginal cultural relics.
In 1987, the museum was renamed the "Beitou Art Museum." A significant renovation took place in 2002, adhering to traditional construction methods over five years at a substantial cost. Reopened in 2008, it now features a complex business model that includes catering, cultural and creative products, performing arts space, and serves as a platform for Taiwan's cultural and creative industry.
Located inside the Beitou Cultural Heritage Museum, Yiranju offers beautiful mountain views right outside the window. The meeting of elegant space and meticulous craftsmanship is evident here, with seasonal ingredients changed according to the seasons and healthy cooking methods that do not use open flames. Dining with beautiful scenery on the outdoor cherry blossom viewing platform allows visitors to overlook Danfeng Mountain up close and Guanyin Mountain in the distance.
