The ruins of the turtle shell house along the Bai Rong Trail are a major feature of Nanpaiwan, offering a glimpse into the past living area of the Paiwan people. The mountaintop provides panoramic views that encompass surrounding mountains and overlook both the Pacific Ocean and the Taiwan Strait.
On clear days, large flocks of National Day birds—grey-faced vultures and red-bellied hawks—can be seen migrating across the area, creating a spectacular sight. Shuangliu Waterfall boasts abundant water volume and a magnificent presence, once voted the second most beautiful waterfall in Taiwan.
The special ecology of Shuangliu includes representative plants of the Hengchun Peninsula visible along the Mao Mountain Trail, such as Hengchun Mountain Pipa, Port Wood Lotus, and Ogasawara Selaginella. The forest is home to Taiwanese blue magpies, blackbirds, and over 196 species of butterflies. Visitors may even encounter the protected yellow-scarlet swallowtail butterfly.
In 1965, the Forest Service planted a variety of tropical tree species here, making it an ideal place to appreciate broad-leaved artificial forests. Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area is located in Shizi Township, Pingtung County, less than half an hour's drive from Fenggang.
