Your Experience

Located in the heart of bustling Bengaluru (within the old Bangalore Fort area), Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace is an exquisite example of Indo-Islamic architecture and a testament to the grandeur of the 18th-century Mysorean rulers. Construction of the palace was initiated by Hyder Ali in 1781 and completed by his son, Tipu Sultan, in 1791. Tipu Sultan affectionately referred to this majestic wooden structure as the "Abode of Happiness" and the "Envy of Heaven."

The palace is constructed almost entirely out of teakwood and stands on a stone pedestal. It features beautifully fluted wooden pillars, elegant cusped arches, and intricately carved wooden brackets. The walls and ceilings were once completely covered in vibrant floral motifs, some of which are still visible today. The upper floor boasts protruding balconies from which the Sultan would hold his royal durbar (court). Today, the ground floor serves as a small ASI museum detailing the life, administration, and military innovations of Tipu Sultan, including sketches of the famous Mysorean rockets. It is a peaceful historical retreat hidden within a modern metropolis.
